Investments

I work with a lot of people, including The Man, who have different things they like to stockpile. One of these is Hope. In my line of work, hope is not the same as it is for, say, a starving child or a desperate artist. (there may be some exceptions for the desperate artist) The hope i see in my line of work is usually along the lines of “I hope it lasts until i can afford to get it fixed” or “I hope they have that part in stock”.

We had a car come in yesterday with the instructions: “Please turn off all of the red lights on the dashboard.”  The estimate included repairing various systems. They declined the repair. Seems we misunderstood. They didn’t actually want anything fixed, they just wanted the lights out. I don’t know why they came to me, a roll of black tape costs a buck.

There is an old saying: “hope in one hand and crap in the other, and see what your left with.” A few miles to the west of us is Chino, where cow manure is a big business. It is clear to me after years of being a mechanic that Hope is not a good investment. Crap, however, is lucrative.

Today, whenever a mechanic hears the word “hope”, keep in mind he may be seeing this: big pile of crap

Brain Clogs

A few nights ago…
I dreamed that my truck, left alone in a grass overflow parking lot in LA was broken into, and parts of the engine stolen. For some reason, I had my sisters phone, and i couldn’t get it to work. every time i pushed a button for a number, some other random entry came up. I went for help and came back to find some scrap- metal collectors claiming what was left of it.

Last night…
Dreamed that Sarah and i had moved to New Mexico and we were trying to figure out how to configure the new Google license plates for Sarah’s car. It had changing different colored numbers on it.

The Rat Commute

Some of my customers are really hard on their cars.  Especially those with young families.

This is why Sarah doesn’t carpool with co-workers anymore.

My dream last night: Sarah and i watched a Japanese animae movie called Tokyo Godfathers. (homeless people in japan) I dreamed i was sleeping in a cardboard box and a truck drove by. when i woke up i felt an earthquake. there was a 3.1 near telescope peak.

A couple nights ago, i dreamed i was at one of my sisters (memarielane.com) band competitions in high school. There was a very fat girl playing the trumpet with extreme energy and animation. So much so that a big guy had been commissioned to stand behind her and hold up her gut.

Science Friction

Both science and religion are guilty of exclusion-ism, and to truly learn something, you must examine all information.

The scientific method, as per Basic Chemistry did not exist until relatively recently. Greek origins of “indivisible” particles, Plato, Aristotle, (alchemy in general) did not use the scientific method, but the discoveries and models built in those times are still used as part of the models today. Science doesn’t throw away the previous model, it just modifies it. Concepts do not die, they just change. Speculations , however do die, often before they reach conception. The atom we know today still explains evaporation, just as Democritus did in 500 B.C.

Every concept that has been perceived has someone that disagrees with it. This is the same in both religion and science.

There is no real “proof” in science. I refer back to the recent hype over string theory. So many “proofs” came out of string theory math that the reflections started to revert back to previous questions. Some amazing concepts about the universe came out of it. None have been dis “proven”, because mathematically they work. However, Logical they cease to make sense next to one another. (there is more to this, such as variables set as constants to find answers that got nowhere, but I have limited space, and Lee Smolin already wrote a book on it) many proofs have been dis proven with new discoveries

There is no real “proof” in religion. I refer to the hype over (–insert religion here–) Every religion has a whole theory about how it works, and each part works with every other part. If you present a contradiction in a religion, someone will tell you, with their own logic, why it is not a dispute, but a compliment. Kinda like Microsoft telling you its a “feature, not a bug.” The scientific method is not denied by religion, it is adapted to fit it. Note that religions today (with a few exceptions) are different than they were years ago, because people think, apply new knowledge, and change the model. Predictions are made, tested, and revised using the religious information available per religion.

You are hopefully seeing a fault here, as per my intention. A religion does not usually look at the “secular” to gain information, and this is seen as why it is a failure. But, hang on a second here. Is it not possible that science does the same thing by neglecting religion? Religion has been around a lot longer than science hasn’t it? Isn’t there more data?

Quantum mechanics eventually showed that “God actually does throw dice” when we see Planck’s constant and the “probabilities” of atomic particles.

Someone or something somewhere threw something, otherwise there would be nothing.

Just for a second here, just for this example, suspend your belief that the bible is a religious book, and look at the story of creation as a man many years ago, seeing nature in his own eyes, and trying to explain what he is seeing. Look at what this man said about creation, the order in which things were “spoken into being” and you should see something interesting just as I did.

The first thing created was “a heaven and earth without form and void” to have a something we need first mass and energy. Then came light, which was divided into day and night. Scientifically, light is known as an electromagnetic wave/ particle of energy. even if only a small part of it. In order for this, there must also be time. Both the bible and science agree that without time, there is no physical realm, and it must exist to allow anything physical. The first chapter of Genesis continues with creation, but when you read it, don’t look at it as a divine thing, look at it as the forming of the laws of physics. The layers in which they work are the same order as “the creation.”
After a while you can see what I saw: a man with no knowledge of science trying to describe the results of a major event. (big bang?) I often wonder what we can learn by incorporating religion into science. Not as an absolute, but as a perspective that will show us what we have not yet seen. People have been looking at and studying our planet a heck of a lot longer than “science” existed, there must be something in those old Indian, Mayan and eastern religions. To deny this is just as bad as religion denying science.

Worm I goin, and Wire We Here

The Chrysler, (refering this article) Still runs, and the client is happy with us but not the car. As it should be.

After tearing the harness apart twice looking for shorts, it was found to be that 2. Not 1, but 2 factory purchased PCM computers were faulty. the second computer would not even communicate with the scan tool. Insisting with the sublet repair company that “rebuilds” these boxes of glue, they verified a bad processor, and sent me a third computer. car immediately started right up and ran flawlessly. The customer has been warned that the wiring on this car is insulated with some kind of cheese product, but she is happy. I only think its a matter of time before something else goes wrong, but I’m surprised it has lasted this long already. Newer cars are made more and more out of plastic. Doing some research, i found the rejected prototype denied entry at the Paris Auto show if the 2010 dodge intrepid.
Intrepid

The good thing is: I think this car will be easier to work on.

Brain Clogs

Stress from school has been reeking havoc with my head, and ive been having nightmares.  Like a couple nights ago, i dreampt that the roof i spent all summer fixing was leaking so bad i was getting soaked as i tried to find the hole in the attic.  Then i found out it wasn’t raining outside.

Last night i had this one, thats got enough in it to start a sci fi novel

On a sandy porchish outcropping  over the beach, the 3 of us were trying to explore. One guy was digging a hole, when I felt an echoing vibration in the ground, on the other side of a giant rock that was the centerpiece of the porchish thing. He had hit a small boulder and was trying to work it loose. I got down from my climbing on the giant rock and dug into the ground where I heard the echo. “hit it again” I said. He hit his rock, I felt mine move. “Im gona rock it back and forth” he said, I felt my rock move. Hmm. He pulled up, I pushed down, the twin rocks came loose. Suddenly the two holes opened up and the rock flew up in front of me, over the giant rock, where its trajectory bent toward the beach cliffs. It floated in the air, strangely lifeless, out of sight toward the cliff. The third guy and the other guy started arguing about how this all worked. He jumped into the hole where the rock had come up, expecting to end up on the beach below. Instead he went under the giant rock and up the other hole and out. “Heh. I wonder how that works.” then he jumped into that hole. This time he bent back up the first hole, but now, as he cleared the second hole, he disappeared. In his place, a large rock followed the trajectory of the first rock towards the cliffs. This rock somehow did not look lifeless.

This followed with a strange dimension of people that appeared in rock form and time moved way slow.  the “porch” was an interdimentional gate that its creator died trying to use… the first lifeless rock.  My friend wasnt dead, he was just a rock now.

I call the lady with the Chrysler today, see if its still running or traded it in.  Shes been either driving it for the last 2 weeks, or it broke, she’s pissed, and not talking to me again without a lawyer.
